No High School Diploma? No problem! You can still register for ABC courses by taking our FREE entrance exam instead. *(except for Certified Professional Coder and Medical Billing and Coding)*

Is the ABC Training Center a licensed school?

ABC is licensed by the NY State Department of Education, Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision, as both a trade school and a business school. All ABC curriculums, instructors, admissions agents, classrooms, equipment, textbooks, enrollment contracts, externship & clinical sites, and job placement programs are approved by New York State and subject to continuous regulation.

Does ABC guarantee job placement?

By law, no school can guarantee job placement, and all schools are required to state that plainly in their enrollment contract. However, ABC has a very good record of success in the workplace for our graduates. Each and every student is entitled to personal assistance from our Job Placement Coordinator, including private consultation, resume creation, internships, job leads, and interview preparation. ABC also welcomes a large number of job recruiters to our classrooms, and holds regular job fairs on our premises where students get a chance to mingle with staffing representatives from area companies. Our placement statistics and the names of companies where our graduates work are available for inspection.

Are there other ABC locations?

No. ABC has just the one Bronx location. We are a small, privately-owned “family” operation, which allows us to bring to the community what the big chain schools can’t: small class sizes, personal “one-on-one” attention, extra access to equipment, tools, & hands-on practice time…and the lowest prices available in New York City!

How long has ABC been around? How established a school is it?

ABC has operated continuously since 1972. We have a spotless record with the NY State Department of Education and an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau. ABC enjoys a stellar reputation in the professional community as well, where our graduates are known to be expertly trained, thoroughly prepared, and 100% professional and work-ready.

Is the bartending program at ABC Training Center related to the ABC Bartending School in Manhattan?

No. The ABC school in Manhattan is part of a national chain, not related to us. Although the ABC chain, in some of their advertising, claims to have a Bronx location, they do not. (For the record, we have been using the name “ABC” for several years prior to the birth of the “other” ABC).

Can I take Patient Care Tech at your school if I am not already an NA? Or if I have an NA certificate from another school? Or if I have previously taken NA at ABC?

Yes to all three questions.

If you are not an NA already, you can take the “Advanced Nurse Aide” program at ABC, which includes NA, EKG, & Phlebotomy. This will allow you to qualify for the PCT certification.

If you have already received your NA certificate, whether it be from ABC or a different school, you need only take the EKG/Phlebotomy course at ABC in order to become a PCT, provided your NA certificate is still active.

Does ABC offer financial aid?

ABC does not offer formal financial aid. However, you can enroll in almost any of our programs for just a small down-payment, and pay the rest week-by-week, as you go. This allows many working people to advance their careers while still holding down their regular job, (especially since ABC offers many flexible schedules including night and weekend courses), for just a little bit from their paycheck each week. And, ABC takes pride in offering low tuition prices with exceptional educational value.

Can I still enroll at ABC if i do not have a High School Diploma or GED?

Yes Absolutely. Just come in and take our placement exam instead! *(except for Certified Professional Coder and Medical Billing and Coding)*. The placement exam is given seven days a week free of charge! It’s just a simple, high-school level reading & math test, and if you pass it you’re eligible to come to ABC! Call the Admissions Office for testing hours.

What is the difference between the Medical Billing and Coding program and the Certified Professional Coder program?

The Billing and Coding course, offered on your choice of weekday mornings or evenings, focuses primarily on medical billing and insurance claims and instructs students on how to convert a medical procedure, diagnosis, or symptom into specific codes for the purpose of submitting a claim for reimbursement. The student will seek the Certified Billing & Coding Specialist credential (CBCS) from the NHA (National Healthcareer Association).

The Certified Professional Coder course, offered on your choice of weekends or weeknights, is a slightly longer (16 weeks as opposed to 10) and more advanced curriculum that instructs students on how to assign a correct diagnosis, procedure, and supply code for a wide variety of clinical cases & services. The student will seek the Certified Professional Coder credential (CPC) from the AAPC (American Association of Professional Coders,www.aapc.com).

To put it in broad and simpler terms, the B&C program is probably (but not exclusively) more suited to newcomers to the healthcare industry, while the CPC course is probably (but not exclusively) a better fit for current industry professionals seeking this particular certification.

* note:
The two programs are separate, and neither one is a requirement for the other. Each course is self-contained and fully instructional (there is no additional outside training that needs to accompany it). Each program presumes no prior knowledge or training, and each prepares the student for the specific certification exam of its governing body.

The only requirement for either program is a high school diploma or GED.
